Stamps of India 2nd Ed. by Jal Cooper
Stamps of India 2nd Ed. by Jal Cooper
This is the 2nd and, in my opinion, the best edition of Cooper’s general book on Indian philately. It is also the rarest of the three editions. In the 1940s and 50s Cooper was at his peak and his writings in India’s Stamp Journal as well as in this book have a sharp bite. Lots of things mentioned in the second edition have been dropped from the third edition. This book is hence 228 pages long as compared to the third which has only 177 pages. Coverage: The books discusses all aspects of Indian philately from the earliest days to post-independence. Chapters include those on the Handstruck Stamps, Overland Route, Scinde Dawks, Proofs Essays and Specimens, 1854 lithographed stamps, East India and later issues, Official Stamps, Military Stamps, Postal Stationery, Postal Service and I.P.N., Telegraph Stamps, Early Indian Cancellations, Used Abroad, Air and mails, etc. etc!! Basically the single best book on all aspects of Indian philately.
Published in 1951 and printed on nice paper. Hard Bound in bright red cloth. In very good condition inside with no markings or writings. Includes the scarce fragile dust jacket though this has some tears and repairs.
