Catalogue / Katalog Marques de Passage / Postvertragsstempel Katalog 1661-1875 (= Catalogue of Marks of Passage / Postal Stamps) by James Van der Linden
Here is the combined original book from 1993 and the supplement from 1997 (total around 400 pages). The work is about the various accountancy and postage markings on letters travelling all over the world in the pre-UPU period. Around 3500 markings are covered as seen from the catalogue numbering. This book is a godsend for those collecting postal history since it clarifies the origins / destinations / reasons for various kinds of markings. Hence it can prove useful say to someone collecting French India mail to French possessions abroad or someone collecting British Indian Mail going to say Germany or Italy. It also assigns rarity factor as well as value to all markings. It won the Crawford Medal in 1994 for its comprehensiveness and detail. While the text is in German / French, this is a catalogue and hence there is very less textual material to read and hence it can be easily understood (see second photo).
Hard Bound in Deep Blue Cloth (issued without a dust jacket), the book is in Very Good condition.
