The Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia and the Gulf by Neil Donaldson along with the Supplement
The Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia and the Gulf by Neil Donaldson along with the Supplement
Published in 1975, the main book is perhaps the best on the subject of Indian & British Post Offices and Stamps used in the Persian Gulf. The book covers a vast time period from the 1850s to the early 1970s. It discusses Muscat, Guadur, Bahrain, Dubai, Kuwait, amongst other places. Each country chapter opens with a historical background of the region, the circumstances which lead to opening of the each post office, the various cancellations, postmarks, registration label, and (overprinted) stamps used. It covers airmails, war mails (air graphs, FPOs, etc.) as well. The supplement to the original book was published 19 years later in 1994 and contains a great deal of new information on the subject that came to light in the intervening period.
The main book is hardbound in blue cloth and is in very good condition with bright pages and no foxing or markings. The supplement is soft bound and is in new-like condition. These books are very scarce and difficult to find. This is a rare chance to acquire the two together.
