Josiah K. Lilly Auction Catalogues, 1967-68
Josiah Kirby “Joe” Lilly Jr. was another important stamp collector. His huge collection was sold by Siegel Auctions of New York City in a series of 10 sales between 1955 and 1958. After the auctions concluded, the publisher bound the catalogues and prices realised in two quality cloth-bound volumes as follows:
- The Josiah K. Lilly Collection: United States. Contains Parts I (Postmasters’ Provisionals, 19th Century Postage & Official Issues), III (Canal Zone, Cuba, D. W. Indies, Guam, Hawaii, Philippines, Puerto Rico and Confederate States of America), V (Proofs, Encased Postage, Fractional Currency, Carriers and Locals, Sheets), VII (19th and 20th Century), and IX (Envelope Stamps, Revenue Stamps, Match and Medicine Stamps, Telegraph Stamps).
- The Josiah K. Lilly Collection: General Foreign: Contains Parts II (British Commonwealth: Great Britain, Aden to Mauritius), IV (Benelux Countries, France & Colonies, Germany, States & Colonies, Scandinavia, Switzerland), VI (European Countries and their Colonies), VIII (British Commonwealth: Malaya to Zululand), and X (Latin America, Asia, Africa).
The volumes are in very good condition. Hard to find them these days as most seem to have disappeared into the libraries of bibliophiles!
