Philippe De Ferrari (1850–1917) was THE all-time great of stamp collecting. No question about it. Amongst his collection were most of the iconic stamps around – the British Guiana One Cent Black on Magenta, the Treskilling Yellow of Sweden, the Mauritius “Bordeaux” cover, the 1d and 2d “Post Office” Mauritius stamps, 2 cent Hawaiian Missionaries, and many more.

His huge collection was confiscated by the French government claiming it as a war reparation. The initial 14 sales were conducted by M.G. Gilbert in Paris between 1921 and 1925. Another sale was by E. Luder-Edelmann & Co. of Zurich in 1929 which mainly contained Ferrari’s Greece collection.

This offer contains the complete set of Ferrari’s Catalogues. Rare and very difficult to find especially the 1929 catalogue and prices realised.

• Volume 1: Contains Auctions Nos. I to IV (4 of 14) of 1921-22
• Volume 2: Contains Auctions Nos. V to X (6 of 14) of 1923-24
• Volume 3: Contains Auctions Nos. XI to XIV (4 of 14) of 1924-25

Bound in quarter black leather with marbled boards and end papers. The original paper covers are bound in. Apart from some pages of the first volume having the prices realised in ink, the rest of the volumes are clean. Overall, the volumes are in very good condition.

ZURICH SALE

• One volume contains the text of the auction catalogue
• The other volume contains the plates and prices realised of the sale

Both volumes are Hard Bound in Half Black Cloth and Marbled Boards. The original card covers are bound in. The prices realised of the Zurich sale is rare and was priced at 5 Swiss France when issued! Overall, the volumes are in very good condition.
