Alfred Caspary Auction Catalogues, 1955-58

Alfred H. Caspary (1877–1955) was one of the all-time greats of stamp collecting. His huge collection was sold by H. R. Harmer, Inc of New York City in a series of 16 sales between 1955 and 1958. After the auctions concluded, the publisher bound the catalogues and prices realised in three quality cloth-bound volumes as follows:

  • The Caspary Collection: United States: Contains Sale Nos. 1 (Postmasters’ Provisionals), 2 (General Issues Part One), 3 (Postmasters’ Provisionals of the Confederate States of America), 6 (General Issues), 8 (Carriers and Local Posts), and 10 (Hawaiian Islands and General Issues of The Confederate States).
  • The Caspary Collection: Foreign Countries: Contains Sale Nos. 4 (Old German States Part One), 7 (Old Italian States Part One), 11 (Europe Part One), 13 (Europe Part Two), 14 (Latin America), and 16 (Asia chiefly Japan).
  • The Caspary Collection: British Commonwealth: Contains Sale Nos. 5 (British North America), 9 (British West Indies), 12 (Possessions in Europe, Asia and Africa), and 15 (Oceania).

The British Commonwealth volume has some spotting on the spine. Overall, the volumes are in very good condition.
